European laws 'wholly inadequate' for migrant crisis

I think if you are expecting European leaders to leap into action and break the migrant log-jam well as they say "don't hold your breath".

The Italian, the French, the German governments are putting together a memorandum demanding the fair sharing of refugees around Europe but they know, we all know, there are probably more countries against that idea than in favour of it.

The Italian's are talking about stepping up their action against people traffickers at sea off the coast of Libya - not going as far as actually attacking them on land yet but they'll ask for European permission for that.

In the meantime the Hungarian's are saying "look which laws do we enforce here."

Hungary have actually written tonight to the German government saying will they please unambiguously tell them which European legislation the German government regards as applicable in this situation and what legal procedures these people should go through if they want to get to Germany.

Quite clearly Europe's asylum, immigration and freedom of movement laws are wholly inadequate to deal with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of people all at once and changing them quickly well that's probably not going to happen.
