QPR manager Chris Ramsey believes transfer window should close in first week of July
Chris Ramsey says there have been no concrete bids for striker Charlie Austin this week, while the QPR manager believes the transfer window should close in early July.
Austin scored 18 Premier League goals last season in a struggling team, and has been linked to various top flight clubs since QPR's relegation to the Championship.
As yet, the £12m bid from Leicester which was turned down earlier this month is the only offer that has been lodged for his services.
QPR will not accept anything less than the £15m price tag they placed on the England international, who currently tops the Championship's goal-scoring charts with four goals in his last three matches.
With the transfer window still open until 6pm on Tuesday 2nd September, three days after QPR's fifth league match of the season, Ramsey believes it would make much more sense for the deadline to be brought forward.
Speaking to the QPR Podcast this week, he said:
"I don't understand how you can have a transfer window going on into the season when people really should have done their business by now.
"For me, the transfer window should close in the first week of July because historically, clubs come back [for pre-season], anytime between the 1st and 10th of July."
Along with Austin, there has been speculation in recent weeks that Matty Phillips and Rob Green, both of whom are playing an important role in QPR's solid start to the season, will be bought by Premier League clubs this month.
Dutch international Leroy Fer was on the verge of joining Sunderland before failing a medical, and the midfielder could also depart Loftus Road if he recovers from injury in time.
With QPR relying on funds raised by selling players to recruit suitable replacements, any last minute deals could leave under-strength and with little option but to wait until January to spend, when it's notoriously difficult to make quality additions.
Addressing the transfer rumours surrounding Austin specifically, Ramsey revealed:
"We haven't had anything concrete enough to draw him away from the club, so that's that.
"We're always looking [for a replacement] just in case something happens at the last minute.
"The problem we've got is that any money that comes in will either go into the bottomless pit we've got or we'll spend some of it on a replacement, which will be very difficult if anything happens at the last minute.
"We're crossing our fingers that nothing really happens."
