Victoria Derbyshire diagnosed with breast cancer
Journalist and broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The former Newsnight presenter, 46, said she is having a mastectomy in a few weeks and will continue presenting her BBC Two and BBC News current affairs programme as much as possible during treatment.
Victoria Derbyshire's daytime current affairs show broadcast every weekday morning, was launched earlier this year as the broadcaster's first news programme designed for an online audience.
But early ratings were disappointing with just 73,000 viewers in its first 10 outings, around a third of the audiences of Channel 5 rival The Wright Stuff.
Previously, she was a popular presenter on BBC Radio 5 Live an won the 'Speech Broadcaster of the Year' in 2014.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: "We wish Victoria a full and speedy recovery and look forward to having her back full time as soon as possible."
