The Mirror says Burnham is the "only Prime Minister-in-waiting" in the contest, and "must" be the next leader of the party.

The Guardian are backing Yvette Cooper for Labour leadership.

In an article entitled "The Guardian view on Labour’s choice" the paper says: "Corbyn has shaped the campaign, but Cooper can shape the future".

The contest heated up the day before ballot papers are being issued.

The Shadow Home Secretary voiced her opinions about her rival and frontrunner Jeremy Corbyn on the campaign trail in Manchester - saying his are "the wrong answers for the future".
