Nearly 30 years after Tim Burton's cult movie Beetlejuice first hit the screens, a sequel has been confirmed by one of its original stars.

Winona Ryder, who played Lydia Deetz in the 1988 horror-comedy, confirmed in an interview with Seth Meyers that a sequel will be made.

The film, starring Michael Keaton in the title role, follows a recently deceased couple who commission the services of a "bio-exorcist" in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.

The Warner Brothers film is said to have cost just $15 million to make but was a box office hit and a sequel was rumoured as far back as the following year.

Instead, director Tim Burton went on to direct Batman and Batman Returns.

Ryder was just 17 when she starred in the film alongside stars Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Catherine O'Hara.
