Superhero funeral for boy who died on building site
The friends and family of a seven year old boy who died on a building site have celebrated his life with a superhero-themed funeral.
Conley Thompson's body was found in a pipe on a construction site in South Yorkshire.
He failed to come home on the evening of Sunday 26 July after telling his mother he was going out to play with friends. His body was discovered the following day.
Mourners wore clothes patterned with Marvel comic book characters to the service at St Thomas and St James' church in Worsborough, near Barnsley, to reflect Conley's love of cartoons.
His coffin was also decorated with superheroes and arrived in a horse-drawn hearse.
Floral tributes included Thor's hammer and an Avengers-themed wreath.
Conley's mother, Paula, wore a Marvel comic dress, while his grandmother wore leggings patterned with the superheroes and a red t-shirt that read Conley and Super Nan-nan.
Reverend Trevor Keightley described Conley as a "loveable rogue" during the service.
Yesterday would have been Conley's eighth birthday.
South Yorkshire Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
But detectives are investigating Conley's movements on the day of his death and have appealed for anyone who may have seen him after 6pm on Sunday July 26 to come forward.
