Fans pay tribute to 'Arthur Daley' star George Cole

Fans of George Cole's most famous character have paid tribute to the man who brought wily Londoner Arthur Daley to life.

Cole starred in hit TV series 'Minder' from 1979 to 1994 as an ambitious but ultimately useless small-time London crook, Arthur Daly, bringing the criminal underworld of west London to millions of homes up and down the country.

Since news of his death broke, fans of the programme have contacted ITV News via social media to praise Cole for his role.

Cole, whose showbusiness career spanned 70 years, starred as small-time wheeler dealer and crook Daley alongside his bodyguard Terry McCann, played by Dennis Waterman.

Starring alongside Dennis Waterman, who played his hard-done-by bodyguard Terry McCann, Cole brought the shenanigans of a West London car dealer to life, and brought catchphrases like "nice little earner" and "her indoors" into popular British culture.
