British police to be sent to Magaluf and Ibiza to help Spanish crackdown on drunkenness
UK police are to be sent to party destinations Magaluf and Ibiza to help Spanish police tackle offenders and deal with victims from Britain.
A constable and sergeant will take part in a two-week trial working alongside officers from the Guardia Civil.
West Midlands police officers will spend a week in Magaluf in Majorca and then seven days in San Antonio, Ibiza.
Magaluf hit the headlines this summer when holidaymakers defied new rules aiming to crack down on boozing and drunkenness.
The Foreign Office funded trial is set to place the two officers in a patrol alongside Spanish colleagues in tourist hotspots including beaches, airport terminals and town centres.
The officers will assist the Guardia Civil when British nationals are victims of crime, support any criminal investigations where Britons are victims, witnesses or offenders, and help British nationals who are victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse or other serious offences, the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) said.
The police will wear full British uniform and work eight-hour shifts between 7am and 10pm, starting on Monday.
