Suspected plane debris which has washed up off the east coast of Africa, may be tested to see if it has any link to the downed MH370 plane.

It is thought the debris that has been found on Reunion Island "is probably from a plane" but local officials have warned the public not to get ahead of themselves in thinking it could be part of the missing plane.

Eric Chesneau, an officer in the air transport police of the French Indian Ocean territory said: "People are getting ahead of themselves over this. It is more than likely plane debris, (but) we don't know what exact part it may be."

According to reports the debris will now be examined to see if it has any link to the Malysian airlines plane.

MH370 disappeared in March last year, and is thought to have crashed into the Indian Ocean. There were 239 passengers onboard the Boeing 777 when it went missing while travelling between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.
