Topshop agrees to stop using skinny mannequins after complaint goes viral
Topshop has agreed to stop using unrealistically proportioned mannequins after a customer's picture slamming the "ridiculous" shape attracted thousands of supporters on Facebook.
Laura Berry posted an image of a mannequin used in a store in Bristol on the company's Facebook page and called on the popular high street chain to to take responsibility for the "impression you have on women and young girls".
Her post, in which she told the retailer: "I’m calling you out, on your lack of concern for a generation of extremely body conscious youth," attracted more than 3,000 likes and was shared hundreds of times.
The customer services assistant had headed to a store in Cribbs Causeway Mall to buy a new pair of her favourite jeans, but said that after seeing them on the mannequin "I used my size 10/12 legs to walk straight out of your store."
Topshop initially replied to ask Berry to message the firm directly, before posting a public response in which it confirmed it is "not placing any further orders on this style of mannequin."
Topshop said "we apologise if we have not lived up to the levels of service that we aim to deliver."
