Sticky situation after ice cream van crashes, spilling melting cargo across the road
Thousands of motorists were caught in miles of tailback after an ice cream truck flipped over and crashed, spilling its cargo across the carriageway.
The truck blocked two lanes of traffic on the busy A23 near Horsham when it crashed, at around 10am yesterday.
The driver managed to escape unscathed, but it was a different story for the sweet treats which rapidly began to melt onto the roadway.
Traffic officers from Sussex Police coned off the vehicle while they cleared the mess - but sadly, they said, the weather was rather too dull to enjoy a freebie while at the scene.
The crash sparked a number of jokes on social media as people reacted to the sticky situation.
