Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been told to put his "feet up" and rest following his return home after a week-long stint in hospital.

Tutu was even given a dressing gown emblazoned with the words "feet up Arch" as a reminder to take it easy after being hospitalised last week.

Pictures of the Archbishop's return home were posted online on the official Desmond Tutu Facebook page along with a message saying the 83-year-old was looking forward to "spending quality time with Mrs Tutu and watching a little cricket".

In a statement released by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation last week, his daughter, the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said her father had been in hospital to receive treatment for a "persistent infection".

Following Tutu's return home the Reverend Canon paid tribute to the "fantastic" medical team that had looked after her father and said the family were "grateful for the love and support of friends in South Africa and abroad" over the past week.
