The original Batmobile from the 1960s TV show is to go on sale at auction.

Expected to fetch around £3 million, the iconic car was used by actor Adam West during his portrayal of the caped crusader.

The car previously went on sale in 2013 and is now being auctioned by the Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom in Arizona, USA.

It began life as a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car but in 1965, ABC asked then-owner and car customiser George Barris to redesign it for the TV show.

Barris was given just three weeks to remodel the car, changing the nose and tail with bat-inspired shapes and designs.

The Batmobile included gadgets such as a Batphone, Bat-Ray Projector and an automatic tyre inflating system.

The series starring Adam West, known for its camp style, ran for three series from 1966 to 1968.
