Contenders to replace Sepp Blatter as Fifa president
FIFA says a presidential election will be held on 26 February 2016 to elect a successor to Sepp Blatter - here's the men in line to replace him:
Michel Platini
The 60-year-old UEFA president is the clear favourite now Asia has swung behind Europe, South America and CONCACAF in supporting the Frenchman. Played 72 times for France before managing them from 1988-92.
Chances: Very good
Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein
Asia's backing for Platini means it is now unlikely that Prince Ali will stand again - the Jordanian was comprehensively beaten by Sepp Blatter in May.
Chances: Slim
Tokyo Sexwale
Former anti-apartheid activist who was imprisoned with Nelson Mandela, he would be a strong choice from Africa but might struggle to gain support from other confederations. Has been appointed to lead FIFA committee monitoring Palestine/Israel.
Chances: Fair to slim
Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah
Sports powerbroker from Kuwait already rules the roost in Olympic circles and Asian football. He has just been elected to FIFA's executive committee but now looks as though he would support Platini.
Chances: Slim
Issa Hayatou
Ill-health and questions about his own history within FIFA mean he is unlikely to stand despite being president of the powerful Confederation of African Football.
Chances: Slim
Zico
The former Brazil international has declared he wants to stand for the FIFA presidency but has little if any experience in football politics.
Chances: Very slim
Candidates for the position will have to be nominated before October 26.
