The Russian government has launched a campaign to educate its citizens on how to avoid being killed while taking a selfie.

Russia's interior ministry has launched an website offering advice, including a video that warns “A cool selfie could cost you your life,” as well as other tips such as “a selfie with a weapon kills”.

The advice follows a series of selfie related deaths in Russia, with a woman in Moscow accidentally shooting herself in the head, a teenager falling onto railway tracks and another who fell to her death from a bridge in pursuit of a selfie.

The ministry explained its thinking on the website before offering the collection of road sign style icons designed to keep Russian citizens safe while taking photos.
