Star Wars child actor Jake Lloyd in jail after high speed police chase
A child actor made famous for his role in a Star Wars film is in jail after leading police on a 100mph chase in South Carolina.
Jake Broadbent, formerly known as Jake Lloyd, was arrested after the 25-mile pursuit on Sunday, Colleton County Sheriff department said.
The chase began after the sheriff's office was alerted about a reckless driver, Sergeant Kyle Strickland told NBC News. When a deputy began following him, Broadbent sped off.
"He starts passing cars on the double yellow line," Strickland said. "He's going head on into oncoming traffic."
Deputies followed Broadbent, who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in 1999, onto Interstate 95, where he drove "upwards of 100 miles per hour," Strickland added.
The 26-year-old was eventually caught after trying to escape through a road overgrown with trees..
"He bounced off a bunch of them like a pinball machine," the officer said.
Police said it was unclear why the Colorado-based actor was in South Carolina or why he tried to evade police.
"He didn't appear to be on drugs or intoxicated," Strickland said.
