'No photos and speak English' British Embassy issues guidance to German guests ahead of Royal garden party

The British Embassy in Berlin has issued guidance to guests at a Royal garden party this week that includes a ban on photos and a request to speak English.

Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinbugh arrive in Germany on Tuesday and will host a garden party later in the week.

The embassy has issued a handy guide to all guests outlining how to behave around the British head of state and her husband, Prince Phillip.

Alongside notes about the dress code and "limited washroom facilities" at the venue, the four-page booklet explains the standards of behaviour expected when meeting a monarch.

Photographs are banned at the garden party - ruining any chances of a Royal Selfie with The Queen - but an official photographer will be on hand to capture the event.

The guide reminds attendees that "it is not obligatory to bow or curtsey to Members of the Royal Family, although many people like to continue the convention".

Revellers are also reminded to address The Queen as "Your Majesty" in the first instance and then as "Ma'am" (rhymes with pram). Prince Philip is to be called "Your Majesty" upon greeting and then "sir" afterward, the guide advises.

The Embassy guidelines request that guests "please speak to The Queen in English if possible" but an interpreter will be on hand for those who may wish to speak German in Germany.

The guide includes a request to speak English to the Royal Couple.

The guide also says that the Royals and their hosts, President Guack and Ms Schadt, will circulate amongst guests to "meet as many guests as possible".

Germany's foreign ministry posted a video to Facebook at the weekend, highlighting their preparations for the state visit.
