The Simpsons issue 'official' denial that Homer and Marge are to divorce

Troubled times are afoot for The Simpsons as the show heads into its 27th season. The show was thrown into disarray with the sudden departure of Harry Shearer, who was one of the mainstays of the cast, and more recently, it's been dogged by rumours that Marge and Homer might be getting a divorce.

The rumours have now got so persistent that TV's first couple has been forced to issue an official denial.

It all started when the show's executive producer Al Jean discussed an upcoming plotline in which Homer and Marge legally separate after he develops narcolepsy and starts a romance with a pharmacist played by Lena Dunham.

Of course, the Simpsons being the Simpsons, not everything is what it seems, and the video most definitely leaves the door ajar.

The show returns this Autumn.
