Justin Bieber fined by Canadian court for assault and careless driving
One of the biggest pop stars in the world has been fined $750 by a Canadian Court for careless driving. He also received an absolute discharge for an assault on a paparazzo.
Teen favourite Bieber was in court following an incident in Ontario in September 2014. He was arrested after a collision between a minivan and his all-terrain vehicle, which ended in a "physical altercation".
His then-girlfriend Selena Gomez was in the car with him, and the pair were being photographed by photographers.
"Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's peaceful retreat in Stratford this weekend was unfortunately disrupted by the unwelcome presence of the paparazzi," Brian Greenspan, Bieber's lawyer, told the Associated Press at the time.
"This has regrettably resulted in charges of dangerous driving and assault. Mr. Bieber and Ms. Gomez have fully cooperated in the police investigation. We are hopeful that this matter will be quickly resolved."
Not long before the incident, Bieber had tweeted about photographers following him around, mentioning Princess Diana, who died in Paris while being pursued by paparazzi.
