A mosaic of American film legend Clint Eastwood made from thousands of bullet cases has been created to mark his 85th birthday.

The portrait, created by Manchester artist Ed Chapman, contains almost 10,000 used cartridges and features the actor and director in his title role of the 1971 film Dirty Harry.

It has been valued at £10,000 and has already attracted a buyer.Four years ago Chapman created a portrait of Jimi Hendrix which sold at a charity auction for a mosaic world record of £23,000.

He said: "I have always been a fan of Clint Eastwood and Dirty Harry is probably my favourite film of his among so many great movies.

"I had to go into a sort of trance to keep focused on his portrait and I am delighted with the results."
