Women's teams will feature in the Fifa computer game franchise for the first time in 2016, the makers have announced.

EA Sports will incorporate 12 female international teams, including England, in Fifa 2016.

The market-leading game has never featured any women's sides in the past, meaning this is a big step forward for the game.

Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and USA will feature alongside England in the game.

“It’s a really exciting year for women’s football with the forthcoming World Cup and to find out we will be included in Fifa for the first time is a special feeling," said England captain Steph Houghton.

“To be one of the first female players included in the game is something we’ll always be able to look back on and be proud of. Hopefully it will help raise the profile of the women’s game even further.
