An eight-year-old boy has been killed by a falling gravestone while playing in a cemetery in Glasgow with two friends.

Ciaran Williamson was seriously injured and the other boys were also hurt in the incident at the Craigton cemetery in the Cardonald area of Glasgow, which has been described as a "tragic accident."

Ciaran was taken to Yorkhill children's hospital but later died from his injuries.

The two other boys, both aged 10, were also taken to hospital for treatment.

One of them remains in Yorkhill, where staff described his condition as stable, and the other has been released after treatment at the new South Glasgow University Hospital.

Police said they are investigating the full circumstances of the incident but it is not being treated as suspicious. Glasgow City Council is assisting Police Scotland with the investigation.

Local MSP Humza Yousaf also offered his condolences to the family on Twitter.
