'Tragic' end to manhunt after Jed Allen found dead in woods
The hunt for murder suspect Jed Allen has ended after police found his body two days after discovering his mother, stepdad and sister dead.
Allen, 21, was discovered in Woodland about a mile from Oxford University by a member of the public just before 5pm today.
The detective in charge of the case said although formal identification had not taken place he was satisfied it was Allen.
The bodies of Janet Jordon, 48, Philip Howard, 44, and their six-year-old daughter Derin were found stabbed at their home in Didcot, Oxfordshire on Saturday evening.
Detective Superintendent Chris Ward said the investigation into the murder would continue but he was not seeking anyone else in connection with the offence.
He added: "Members of all of the victims' families have been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.
"I would like to offer my condolences to the families of all the victims in this tragic case."
It is unlikely police will ever ever know why the murders of Allen's family members were carried out.
Earlier today police released CCTV of the landscape gardener buying a bottle of water from a WH Smith in Oxford on the same day the bodies were discovered.
Results of a post mortem have yet to be disclosed but Mr Ward said the cause of death was "likely stab wounds".
Detectives said they had recovered what they believed to be the murder weapon from the scene but have not revealed what it was.
