Firefighters were called to Man United defender Chris Smalling's house on Tuesday night after police spotted his hot tub on fire.

Rescue services rushed to the luxury Altringham pad of 25 year-old Smalling, who was out at the time, when officers patrolling the area noticed smoke coming from his back garden.

On closer inspection they found a fire had spread from his jacuzzi to the nearby decking area, and was probably caused by an electrical fault.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service confirmed to ITV News:

"Just after 8pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, a crew from Altrincham Fire Station attended Eyebrook Road in Altrincham after reports of a fire in a back garden."

As firefighters attended the blaze, Smalling posted a photo on his Instagram account from a poker evening he was attending with friends.
