A Twitter account guessing how much the Liberal Democrats have lost in deposits has been set up.

It comes after Nick Clegg's party lost their deposits in the first two seats to declare, both in Sunderland.

So far the Twitter account @LibDemDeposits has gained more than 2,300 followers.

The party acknowledged there could be further poor results over the night.

A source said: "This isn't 2010. There are places, as we have seen consistently over the years in the local and European elections, where we don't have MPs, where we aren't necessarily strong on the ground, we have suffered in the polls. You may well see that happening in certain places tonight.

"We are confident in places where we have MPs and where we have a strong network to get our message across, we will perform much better in those areas."
