Manny Pacquiao has had surgery on his injured right shoulder following his defeat to Floyd Mayweather in the most lucrative fight in boxing history.

Pacquiao could be out of action for up to a year after he underwent corrective surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff on Wednesday, but his surgeon Dr Neal ElAttrache said he could "not be more pleased with the results" and expects him to recover fully.

Pacquiao suffered the injury during a sparring session approximately three weeks ago and blamed the injury for his unanimous points defeat to Mayweather in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) says he did not declare a problem in a pre-fight questionnaire and subsequently refused his request for a pain-killing injection two hours before the fight.

Pacquiao, who revealed the extent of his shoulder injury meant he effectively fought Mayweather with only one hand, denies hiding the injury from authorities and revealed his camp made the US Anti-Doping Agency aware of the injury.

The NAC could fine or suspend Pacquiao for not disclosing the injury, however, while two Las Vegas residents have filed a lawsuit against him alleging the boxer defrauded ticket buyers, television viewers and gamblers.
