A new MRI scanning technique which enables scientists to capture ten times the quality of usual has led to a team recording a very strange video of a man singing If I Only Had A Brain.

Normal MRI scans capture ten frames per second but this new system allows doctors to see 100 frames, giving a fuller look at what is happening when we sing.

Assistant professor in Speech and Hearing Science, and Beckman Institute faculty member, Aaron Johnson spent ten years as a professional singer before turning to research and now his excellent singing voice came in handy.

It is hoped the incredible look at how the muscles move as we use our voices could help people maintain voices as they age.

The results of the study are published in Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
