League One review: Bristol City wrap up title despite bore draw
Bristol City were crowned League One champions on an afternoon when MK Dons ramped up the pressure on Preston for the other automatic promotion spot.
Having sealed their place in next season's Championship in midweek, the Robins needed just a point against Coventry at Ashton Gate to ensure the champagne was out again and they did just that with a 0-0 draw.
That took them 10 points clear of North End, who now have MK Dons breathing down their neck following a 6-1 thrashing of Leyton Orient for Karl Robinson's men.
The Lilywhites could only muster a point at Port Vale on Friday night and the Dons took full advantage as Rob Hall scored a hat-trick and Dean Bowditch, Will Grigg and Dele Alli were also on target, with Jay Simpson claiming a consolation for Orient.
The heavy loss for the visitors took them back into the bottom four at the expense of Crawley, Dean Saunders' side triumphing 2-0 against fellow strugglers Notts County.
Kelly Youga's acrobatic effort put the Red Devils ahead in the 14th minute and 95 seconds later Darren Ward added a second.
Tom Bradshaw's late leveller earned Walsall a 1-1 draw at Crewe as the Alex picked up another point in their survival battle.
However, Alex boss Steve Davis will have been disappointed it was not all three after they were in front for so long thanks to Marcus Haber's goal.
A stoppage-time leveller from Hakeeb Adelakun prevented Colchester from joining Crawley and Notts County on 47 points after they drew 2-2 with Scunthorpe.
The Iron, still not safe themselves, had led through Theo Robinson, but Tom Eastman and Chris Porter scored in the final 10 minutes before Adelakun snatched something for the hosts.
Despite a game at Preston to come, Swindon's aspirations of breaking into the top two were left hanging by a thread after a shock 1-0 loss to already-relegated Yeovil, James Berrett getting the winner.
Rochdale virtually kissed goodbye to reaching the play-offs as they were defeated 1-0 at Gillingham in a contest which saw two Dale players dismissed.
Bradley Dack's 14th-minute strike was the difference between the two teams and Dale's hopes of getting back into it were dented by red cards for goalkeeper Jamie Jones and Matty Lund.
Chesterfield have an eight-point cushion over Keith Hill's men, who have a game in hand, after a 0-0 draw with Oldham.
Luke Berry's goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time salvaged a point for Barnsley as they drew 1-1 with Peterborough, for whom the play-offs are now out of reach, despite Conor Washington's 11th of the season.
However, Sheffield United will almost certainly be there, even though Jason Holt's 57th-minute finish was cancelled out by Bradford's Billy Clarke in a 1-1 draw, Rory McArdle being dismissed in the closing stages for the visitors.
Finally, Doncaster and Fleetwood drew 0-0 in South Yorkshire.
