Target workers create Closing Time tribute to store as it shuts down
Five soon-to-be redundant workers at budget chain Target in Canada heralded the final closure of their store, and jobs they loved, with a touching rendition of Semisonic classic Closing Time.
Target Canada announced plans to close 133 stores across the country by the end of the year, cutting around 17,600 jobs.
Among those losing their job was Liam McDonald, who provides the vocals for the cover song; Kyle Vanderberg (guitar); Evan Holbein (drums); and Liam Kelly and Brady Zomer, who pulled them along on a pallet trolley through the almost-empty store.
Filmed by videographer Eric Deibert, the fivesome - who worked at a store in Victoria, British Columbia - gathered their makeshift props together and created the tribute to a job they say they all loved.
Claiming to have had no practice beforehand, they say they performed the song in one take, after deciding that would be a more fitting tribute than simply playing the song over the PA system.
Posting the video to Facebook, Holbein said:
