The Chancellor was not only buoyed by today's economic figures, but appeared genuinely happy to have his hands full of a different type of dough at a branch of Pizza Express in Hove.
His efforts to make an American Hot came as the chain announced the creation of 2,500 new jobs.
He was soon followed into the kitchen by the Deputy Prime Minster. While the Panasonic Manufacturing site in Cardiff may not appear to be the most obvious place for a cooking stint, Clegg found time to make some extra-thick pancakes in front of the cameras on his visit.

The pair's kitchen cameos were followed by the release of images from the Conservative party's first party political broadcast - in which the Prime Minister was seen sitting down to a meal with his family.
Last week the Conservative Party leader was filmed in his kitchen as he told the BBC's James Landale that he would not seek a third term if he was re-elected, joking that "Terms are like shredded wheat: two are wonderful but three might just be too many."
Given Ed Miliband's famously awkward attempt to enjoy a bacon butty and recent controversy over his "second kitchen," the Labour leader - perhaps wisely - avoided any culinary PR stunts today.
Meanwhile, Nigel Farage shunned his rivals' foodie leanings, sticking to his usual spot in the pub after unveiling Ukip's immigration campaign poster in Dover, Kent.
