Reigning Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton is poised to sign a new contract with Mercedes this week which should see him earning more than £27m per year.

Hamilton is expected to agree terms on a new basic salary of £20.9m, with a number of bonuses based on performance likely to see that figure topped up by more than £7m.

The staggering figure equates to £73,972 every day or £3,082 an hour. By the time you finish reading this article, the 30 year-old will have pocketed around £150. And that's assuming you're a fast reader.
