Former Top Gear co-host James May appears to have found a new way to fill his spare time during his recent "unemployment" - playing the recorder and posting videos of his musical performances online.

A video of the car-loving presenter playing Greensleeves was posted on his new YouTube channel JM's unemployment tube today, along with the caption "Performed by the jobless James May 'pon the descant recorder":

The 52-year-old's next career move currently remains uncertain after the news broke this week that the BBC will not be renewing his motoring show counterpart Jeremy Clarkson's contract.

May, along with co-host Richard Hammond, has not announced if he will stay on as a Top Gear host or not following Clarkson's departure.

Since the BBC dropped Clarkson last week though it seems like May has found himself a new hobby and his rendition of the traditional English folk song Greensleeves has already clocked up more than 30,000 YouTube views.

May also reacted to a comment posted on his Twitter page that suggested his videos showed "the face and sound of a sad middle-aged English bloke without a hope for his future" by jokingly tweeting "Well spotted!"
