Chris Evans: Top Gear rumours are 'nonsense'
Chris Evans has said rumours he will be taking over Top Gear are "absolutely nonsense"
He told listeners to his BBC radio 2 breakfast show this morning that the rumours were "not true".
Evans added: “Not only is it not true, it’s absolute nonsense.
“Looking on Twitter, there’s a 50/50 split about me being in the show would be a good idea. Everyone waiting outside to speak to me can go home and have a cup of tea.”
It comes after The Daily Telegraph reported that the BBC were due to confirm Jeremy Clarkson had been sacked today, with bosses attempting to persuade Evans to take his place.
Evans has previously ruled himself out of the running, saying: "I can categorically say I am not and will never be running for office. Please discount my candidacy."
