David Cameron has said he will step down as Prime Minister in 2020 if the Conservative's win the general election in May and named Theresa May, George Osborne and Boris Johnson as possible successors.

All three of these Conservative MPs are probably familiar to the public but below are 10 facts about each of them that may not be well known..

Theresa May

  • Current job: Home Secretary (appointed May 2010)

  • Age: 58

  • Studied geography at St Hugh’s College, Oxford University

  • Started her career at the Bank of England

  • Elected MP for Maidenhead in 1997

  • She has Type 1 diabetes and needs regular insulin injections

  • She has been married to her husband Philip for 32 years

  • Her supporters are reportedly known as 'Mayniacs'

  • Most likely to be seen: In the House of Commons

  • Least likely to be seen: on 'Strictly Come Dancing'

George Osborne

  • Current job: Chancellor of the Exchequer (appointed May 2010)

  • Age: 43

  • Originally named Gideon Oliver, he changed his name when he was 13

  • Studied Modern History at Magdalen College, Oxford University

  • Elected MP for Tatton, Cheshire in 2001

  • He was the youngest Tory MP in the Commons at the age of 29

  • His political idol is former Prime Minister Tony Blair

  • He is heir to the Anglo-Irish baronetcy of Ballintaylor and Ballylemon

  • Most likely to be seen: rifling through papers

  • Least likely to be seen: having a pint with Nigel Farage

Boris Johnson

  • Current job: Mayor of London (elected 2008)

  • Full name: Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

  • Age: 50 (he was born in New York)

  • Studied Classics at Balliol College, Oxford University

  • Began his career as a journalist at The Times

  • Has written several books including one called 'Seventy Two virgins'

  • He is very distantly related to King George II

  • Boris has four children with his second wife - two boys and two girls

  • Most likely to be seen: riding his bike across London

  • Least likely to be seen: Boris is up for anything
