Sir Chris Hoy urges families to enjoy Sky Ride in 2015

Chris Hoy wants to get as many new people into cycling as possible.

Six times Olympic gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy has encouraged families all over the UK to get on their bikes in 2015.

The Sky Ride ambassador was helping to launch the 15 Sky Ride big bike events for 2015, where various city and town centers will be closed to motorists so that everyone can cycle freely on the roads.

Since the inaugural Sky Ride event in 2009, more than 850,000 people have taken part in what has proved a roaring success.

Speaking to ITV News Sports Correspondent, Ian Payne, the 38 year-old explained:

"It's not the people who are young and fit who are already into cycling that you're trying to reach out to with the Sky Ride. It's more about families, people who haven't ridden bikes recently."
