Amateur video captured the moment a giant Pacific octopus tried get a little closer to the watching crowds.

Ink, as the tentacled terror is more usually known, climbed up the inside of his tank before managing to dangle a few legs over the side at Seattle Aquarium.

he was quickly swept up by an aquarium worker and firmly placed back in his home.

Aquarium spokesman Tim Kuniholm told the Guardian: “It was not an escape attempt. It’s a new exhibit and the animal was exploring his boundaries. Octopuses are very inquisitive by nature, and in this case ... Ink is an overachiever”

It's lucky the staff member did manage to keep the creeping cephalopod in place as next week is octopus week at the aquarium and the male and female animals will be introduced for the first time on Valentine's Day.
