A former Royal Marine killed while fighting with Kurdish forces in Syria made a video recording confirming he "came here of my own free will".

Konstandinos Erik Scurfield, 25, is believed to be the first British person to die fighting Islamic State extremists.

The video recording obtained by ITV News sees Mr Scurfield, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, confirm his name and his intentions, insisting he is in Syria "to help".

Local MP Dan Jarvis said he understood Mr Scurfield had originally joined Kurdish forces in Syria to provide medical aid.
