'My wife and son died because of someone's ego': Victim who lost wife and newborn son tells ITV News of heartbreak
A man whose wife and son died a day apart at Furness General Hospital has told ITV News he has never received an apology for the failings which led to their deaths.
Carl Hendrickson's wife Nittaya and son Chester died at the hospital in Barrow, Cumbria in 2008.
He said he could not convey the damage the "heartbreaking" ordeal had done to his family.
While welcoming today's report, Mr Hendrickson - who has a 12-year-old son - said it was a "disgrace" that it had taken so long for victims to get answers.
"The trust even now have never written and explained what happened and I think the fact Dr Kirkup has had to tell them to 'play nice with the families reflects how dishonest they are," he told Mary Nightingale.
"My wife and son remained unburied for six years because the Trust would not tell us the truth or any answers at all."
The report found that dysfunctional relationships between doctors and midwives had contributed to the unnecessary deaths of 11 babies and Mr Hendrickson's wife.
"My wife and son died potentially because of someone's ego and that is awful," he said.
"When my wife was in difficulties, the midwives refused to get a doctor."
Asked whether he believed improvements had been made at the hospital, Mr Hendrickson replied: "No, all the staff are still in place, the middle management are still in place - how can things be different?"
