Kelly Osbourne has quit Fashion Police after the E! show came under fire over a comment made about singer Zendaya's dreadlocks smelling like "patchouli oil or maybe weed".

E! released a statement confirming Osbourne's exit from the show, saying she was leaving "to pursue other opportunities" and thanking her for "her many contributions to the series over the past five years".

But some are suggesting Osbourne's departure has more to do with the furore over comments Guiliana Rancic made about Zendaya's new look on Fashion Police's Oscars special.

Osbourne made her feelings about the remark perfectly clear on her Twitter feed:

Osbourne was not the only one to take to Twitter - Zendaya hit back at Rancic's comments, calling them "ignorant slurs and pure disrespect".

Rancic has since apologised to Zendaya, saying her comments referred to the "bohemian chic" look, not her ethnicity.

Osbourne has yet to comment on the reason behind her departure from the show.
