EastEnders actor Jake Wood has taken to Twitter to clarify what he actually said before the famous drums played on last night's episode.

Wood, who plays Max Branning, left some viewers frantically rewinding their TVs and checking the subtitles to see if he had fluffed his lines during the shows live ending.

The #EELive Twitter feed went into a frenzy after the show as confusion reigned, with many viewers left asking, "Did he just say, 'You killed Lucy,' or 'Who killed Lucy'?"

Some viewers said his pronunciation was "crystal clear" and that Wood was too good an actor to let the murderer out of the bag:

Others thought Wood had intentionally tried to "break the internet" Kim Kardashian-style.

Even some of the EastEnders actors seemed confused:

After retweeting some of his favourite fan theories, Wood tweeted confirmation he was indeed meant to say "You killed Lucy" with a mesage from BBC One.

This morning Wood said his Twitter feed was "still going nuts" after #whoyougate:

It also suggested the actor's nerves were at the ready when he posted this picture before going live for the crucial "doof doof" moment:
