A victim of Fred Talbot has told ITV News it was "sickening" seeing him go on to become famous as a TV weatherman.

The man, now in his fifties, said Talbot plied him and other boys with alcohol when he was about 14 before abusing him.

He said the abuse took place on a canal barge in the mid-1970s, when Talbot, who was then a teacher, took boys on a school trip and told them to "pretend to have an orgy" while he took photographs.

Speaking anonymously, the man said: "He absolutely abused his position and in those days people had a lot more respect for teachers, you didn't question what they said.

"Amongst the boys it was to be kept secret, it was going to be our secret, we weren't to tell anyone."

In the years that followed, the victim reported what happened to police four times, but the case did not get to court until now.

He said: "He was very good at finding boys that wouldn't tell and that he could abuse and until very recently he got away with the whole thing."

Explaining why he came forward, the victim said: "It was pretty unpleasant to see him on TV and pretty sickening to see him being famous.

"I just thought it was important to protect other people, because these type of people don't usually stop and. I thought it was important to make sure this type of person was brought under control."

Talbot was found guilty of indecently assaulting two boys on a school trip and cleared of a further eight counts.
