It comes after Brian Williams, who presents the Nightly News show, apologisedlast week after claiming he had been on board a military chopper which had been shot down in Iraq - a claim which turned out to be untrue.

In a statement posted on the NBC News website, Brian Williams said he was taking himself "off my daily broadcast for the next several days".
