The frontman of grindcore pioneers Napalm Death has written to the Indonesian president to appeal for the life of a British woman sentenced to death on drug charges.

President Joko Widodo is an avid fan of the metal band from the West Midlands and has been pictured wearing their t-shirts.

It is not the first time Mark 'Barney' Greenway has appealed to the Indonesian president having recently written to plea for two Australian metal devotees, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, who are also facing execution for drug trafficking in the country.

In an open letter, first published by The Independent, Greenway writes:

The 57-year-old grandmother was caught with almost five kilos of cocaine at Bali's airport in May 2012 and sentenced to death in January 2013 and has lost all of her High Court appeals.

Her last hope is a Presidential pardon.

Although she helped police trace other members of a drug smuggling gang, she was the only one to get a death sentence. The prosecution had been recommended a 15-year jail term.
