The last of the 'Big 6' to blink cuts prices by the least: EDF announces 1.3% drop
The final of the 'Big 6' energy firms has now announced it is reducing gas prices. EDF are the last to move and are moving the least with just a 1.3% cut.
They say it is because they bought most of their gas at the old (higher) prices.
This spate of seemingly meagre reduction is nowhere near the 29% drop in wholesale gas prices and will anger millions.
Its now clear that the 'standard tariffs' are poor value compared with many of the fixes and other offers available and it seems likely to prompt a spell of concerted switching.
Customers are being left to wait varying lengths of time before they benefit for cuts and all 'Big 6' remain silent on the matter of electricity prices - where wholesale costs are also down.
Here is a list of when and by how much the 'Big 6' are cutting gas prices:
E.ON - cutting gas prices by 3.5% - from 13 January
British Gas - cutting gas prices by 5% - from 27 February
ScottishPower - cutting gas prices by 4.8% - from 20 February
npower - cutting gas prices by 5.1% - from 16 February
SSE - cutting gas prices by 4.1% - from 30 April
EDF cutting gas prices by 1.3% - from 11 February
