James Blunt brands MP Chris Bryant a 'classist gimp' over 'privileged' music industry comments
James Blunt has launched a scathing attack on MP Chris Bryant today, labelling the politician as a "classist gimp" and a "wazzock" following his comments that people from "privileged backgrounds" dominated the arts.
Blunt launched his tirade on the politician via an open letter in The Guardian which was written in response to Bryant's claims that "we can’t just have a culture dominated by Eddie Redmayne and James Blunt and their ilk."
Blunt wrote: "You classist gimp. I happened to go to a boarding school. No one helped me at boarding school to get into the music business."
Arguing that his background had actually hindered his early career Blunt added: "It is your populist, envy-based, vote-hunting ideas which make our country c***, far more than me and my s*** songs, and my plummy accent.
"I got signed in America, where they don’t give a stuff about, or even understand what you mean by me and “my ilk”, you prejudiced wazzock, and I worked my arse off."
Bryant tweeted this afternoon saying he has replied to Blunt following the publication of the letter.
