Director Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction has the unwelcome honour of receiving the most nominations at this year's Golden Raspberry Awards.

The special effects extravaganza, which stars Mark Wahlberg, "leads" the pack with seven "Razzie" nominations, including Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and Worst Director.

Action fantasy The Legend of Hercules and faith-based film Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas trailed close behind with six nods each for the year's "worst achievements in film," organisers of the 35th Golden Raspberry Awards said

Saving Christmas is currently ranked "The Worst Movie of All Time" on IMDB's Bottom 100 list.

Organisers called this year's batch of Worst Picture contenders the "cinematic equivalent of re-treaded tires."

"Winners" of the Razzies, an annual tongue-in-cheek antidote to the much-hyped Hollywood's awards season, will be announced on February 21 - the eve of the Academy Awards.

Actress Cameron Diaz appears twice on the Worst Actress list, with nominations for her roles in The Other Woman and Sex Tape, as well as a Worst Supporting Actress nod for Annie and Worst Screen Combo with Jason Segel.

Seth MacFarlane also picked up multiple nods for his Western satire A Million Ways to Die in the West, including Worst Actor, Worst Screen Combo with Charlize Theron and Worst Director.

Perennial Razzie favorite Adam Sandler only earned one nomination for his role in romantic comedy Blended, as did his co-star Drew Barrymore.

The winner of a new category this year, the Redeemer Award, will be determined by online vote.

The award will honor a past Razzie winner who has earned acclaim following a "worst" performance.
