Son of ex-Liverpool manager quits job over partnership with The Sun

The son of former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has quit his job after his company announced a partnership with The Sun, a paper still viewed with great hostility on Merseyside over its coverage of the Hillsborough disaster.

Stephen Evans was at the game in 1989 when 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives.

The Sun subsequently attracted a barrage of criticism after it published a number of inaccurate claims, including that Liverpool fans had picked the pockets of victims of the disaster.

When Stephen's company, Motors.co.uk, announced a partnership with Sun Motors, he handed in his resignation immediately, the Liverpool Echo reports.

He tweeted that he was "overwhelmed" by the public reaction to his decision.

Sister Stacey and dad Roy also weighed in with their support for Stephen's decision.

Stephen insisted he was not trying to do anything special, but was simply standing up for what he believed in.
