Sir Ben Ainslie and wife Georgie Thompson rescued from honeymoon yacht ordeal - by Sir Richard Branson's staff
Sir Richard Branson's staff had to come to the aid of Sir Ben Ainslie after the sailor encountered problems with his yacht while on his honeymoon.
The four-times Olympic champion - who married ex-Sky Sports News presenter Georgie Thompson last month - called for help after encountering mechanical problems with his yacht.
He was sailing close to Sir Richard's Necker Island retreat in the British Virgin Islands.
Three members of the island's watersports team came to the couple's aid.
The entrepreneur revealed the episode on his blog page under the title: "Rescuing Ben Ainslie from a boat? Stranger things have happened at sea".
Sir Richard revealed that he had let the couple stay on the island retreat for a few days after the incident.
"Seeing as Ben is one of the greatest sailors of all time, what we didn’t except to see was his boat getting into trouble!"
"With no harm done, Ben was able to see the funny side - after all, stranger things have happened at sea. We are now hosting him and Georgie on the island for a few days."
