This week will see more stormy weather sweeping in off the Atlantic.

In the north today it's stayed very windy and wet with heavy bursts of rain at times, which fell as snow over the mountains, whereas southern counties of England and Wales had a brighter and less blustery afternoon.

Overnight into tomorrow there are more warnings in place for heavy rain and strong winds across Scotland.

Western slopes of Scotland will initially see the worst of the rain with 25-50mm falling.

The combination of saturated ground, more rain and melting snow is likely to result in localised flooding.

The wind will also make for a noisy night with gusts between 50-60mph and exposed northern and western coasts could see 70mph or more by the morning, increasing further tomorrow.

Strong wind warnings are also in force for parts of N. Ireland and Northern England tomorrow, and as rain sinks south into England and Wales by Monday afternoon, the far southeast of England could see local flooding issues later as well.

On Wednesday, the next Atlantic low pressure system will move in across Northern Britain dishing out another wet and windy spell of weather, although more particularly for southern areas this time.

For the time being the Met Office have issued a Yellow wind and rainfall Warning for this event, but as we get closer to mid week it could change depending on the track of the low pressure.

Overall this week temperatures are expected to be around average for the time of year, although there will be some colder days with wintry showers between successive storms, and of course as you've probably felt over the weekend the strong wind will add a definite chill in the air.
