Ex-footballer Clarke Carlisle charged with drink driving offences
Former Premier League player and Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle is to appear in court charged with alleged drink driving offences.
The player was charged with failing to provide a sample and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.on December 20. the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
The charge came two days before Clarke, who was on foot, was hit by a lorry on December 22.
The 35-year-old remains in hospital in Leeds after suffering serious injuries in the incident on the A64 near York.
His wife Gemma has thanked well-wishers on Twitter.
A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: "Clarke Carlisle, 35, was charged on Saturday 20 December with failing to provide a specimen and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
"He is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on 20 January 2015."
